MaisonMargiela/folders: Tabi Collectors Exhibition

The MaisonMargiela/folders Tabi: Collectors project is a special exhibition within Maison Margiela’s broader MaisonMargiela/folders project, created to celebrate the cultural legacy and devoted following of the brand’s iconic Tabi shoe. Held in Chengdu in April 2026, the project brings together 9 Tabi collectors documented by 4 different photographers from around the world, each showcasing their personal archive of rare, unique, and highly collectible Tabi pieces.

The Collectors:

Marta de Megni, documented by Lengua
Pandora, documented by Benjamin Taylor
Jerami Grant, documented by Benjamin Taylor
Eléonore Guignot, documented by Lengua
The Mor Family, documented by Monu Haworth
Theaster Gates, documented by Benjamin Taylor
Yu Lu (Menthae), documented by Fiiiiish
Zhiyu (Yuki) Wang, documented by Fiiiiish
Zion.T, documented by Fiiiiish

The exhibition combines large-scale photography with original footwear from each collector, offering visitors an intimate look at how the Tabi has been worn, preserved, customized, and treasured over time. It also includes archival Maison Margiela pieces and reflects the house’s intention to highlight Tabi not simply as a shoe, but as a symbol of personal expression, craftsmanship, and fashion subculture within its global community.
